Description
EXOPURE Cu 522 for Copper Alloys
Exopure Cu 522 is a cleansing and protective flux for use with copper alloys containing aluminium and is suitable for use in crucible furnaces. Exopure Cu 522 initially provides a fluid, protective cover, which effectively reduces the formation of oxides and gas pick-up, therefore minimising aluminium (and zinc) losses. As the flux absorbs oxides, a dry dross forms which can be easily removed.
Amount to Use 0.5 kg to 1.0 kg per 100 kg of metal charged, depending on the proportion of dirty scrap in the charge.
RECOMMENDED APPLICATION
1. Form a heel of molten metal in the base of the crucible and add sufficient Exopure Cu 522 to form a dry cover (approximately 0.25 kg per 100 kg of metal to be charged).
2. When crucible is fully charged, plunge 0.25 kg to 0.5 kg of EXF 290 per 100 kg of metal to the bottom of the melt by means of a pre-heated, suitably coated bell type plunger. Agitate carefully without breaking the surface of the melt for up to 30 seconds. This is to ensure that the flux is brought into contact with as much metal as possible, in order to remove any alumina inclusions that may be present.
3. Skim off the dross from the surface of the metal. This should be in the form of a dry, powdery dross, free of metallics.
Casting Temperatures: under 10mm metal section 1250ºC 10mm-30mm metal section 1200ºC over 30mm metal section 1150ºC
